Euro to British Pound
The euro is the currency of most short-haul holidays from the UK, from Malta and Ibiza to Paris and Lisbon.
European Central Bank reference rates. Your bank or card will apply its own rate and fees.
Spending Euro sensibly
- Card payments are accepted almost everywhere in the eurozone, including for small amounts
- Cash is still worth carrying for markets, beach kiosks and boat operators
- Decline the option to be charged in pounds at a card terminal. That conversion is almost always worse than your bank's
Why the rate on the day matters
Rates move. If a planning tool re-converted your past spending every time they did, everyone’s balance would drift slightly every day and nobody would trust the number.
Holiday Board stores the original amount, the original currency, the rate at the moment you entered it and the converted figure. That record never changes. A dinner that cost €180 on the Monday keeps whatever it was worth on the Monday.
Converting a whole holiday, not one price
A converter answers one question at a time. On a group holiday the harder question is who has paid what, in which currency, and what that means at the end.
Give a trip a home currency and a local currency and every expense shows both automatically, wherever it was paid. The expense splitter then nets it all into the fewest possible payments.

Questions
- What rate is used to convert EUR to GBP?
- European Central Bank reference rates, published each working day. They are the standard neutral reference rate rather than a rate you can trade at.
- Will my bank give me this rate?
- Almost certainly not exactly. Banks and card providers apply their own rate and may add a fee. Treat this as the true value of the money, and expect your statement to be slightly worse.
- Should I let a card machine abroad charge me in pounds?
- No. That is dynamic currency conversion, and the rate offered is nearly always worse than the one your own bank would use. Always choose to pay in the local currency.
- Does Holiday Board save the rate on my holiday spending?
- Yes. When you log an expense, the rate at that moment is stored with it permanently. Later rate movements never change what a past expense cost, so balances stay stable.
