Plan a group trip to Marbella
Everything below is the planning detail rather than the sightseeing. Currency, climate, what to pack for it, and a day structure that works, so you can put your dates in and fill the days.
Weather and what it means for planning
Warm for most of the year. Summers around 30°C with sea breezes, and winters mild enough at 17 to 18°C for outdoor lunches.
On your Holiday Board, each day shows a forecast once a reliable one exists, which is roughly two weeks ahead. Further out than that we show nothing rather than guessing, because a made-up forecast is worse than none when you are deciding what to pack.
What to pack for Marbella
- Smart casual for evenings, since Puerto Banús and the better restaurants expect it
- Beach club wear as a separate thing from beachwear
- Sun cream and after sun, because the beach days are long here
- A light layer for evenings, which cool more than the daytime suggests
Add these to your plans as bring items while you are setting up the trip and they turn up on everyone’s packing list automatically, with duplicates merged.
An example Marbella day structure
A workable shape for a 4 to 7 days trip. Copy whichever of these fit onto your own days and ignore the rest.
Day 1Arrival day
Old town for dinner. It is prettier and cheaper than the marina.
Day 2Beach club day
Book a bed in advance in season and set a leave time. These start early and fill.
Day 3Old town day
Casco Antiguo in the morning, lunch in the square, afternoon at the beach.
Day 4Day trip
Ronda or Málaga, each a full day. Give it its own day rather than half of two.
Day 5Puerto Banús evening
Dinner and drinks. Agree the budget before you go, not after.
Practical things worth knowing
- Euro. Cards are accepted everywhere, though beach kiosks may want cash
- Beach clubs range enormously in price. Check minimum spends before booking
- The old town is significantly cheaper than the marina for the same quality of food
- Taxis between Marbella and Puerto Banús are short and cheap, so nobody needs to drive
Getting around
The coastal strip is long and a car helps, but taxis between the main areas are cheap enough that most groups skip hiring one.
This is the reason leave time exists as its own field on every plan. The start time is when the thing happens. The leave time is when you actually need to be out of the door, and in Marbella the gap between those two is bigger than people expect.
Money on a Marbella trip
Marbella uses the Euro. If your group counts in pounds, set EUR as the local currency and GBP as the home currency when you create the holiday. Every expense then shows both, and the rate is saved with the expense so past spending never shifts when rates move.
At the end, the expense splitter nets everything off into the fewest possible payments.
