Holiday cost splitter
One cost, split between a group. Free, no account, nothing to install.
Each person pays
£100.00
The pennies matter more than you think
£100 between three people is not £33.33 each, because that only comes to £99.99. Most quick calculations quietly lose that penny, and on a holiday with thirty expenses the losses add up into a number somebody eventually queries.
This calculator gives the remainder to the earliest people, so the parts always sum back to exactly the total. Holiday Board does the same thing everywhere it touches money.
Where a single split stops being enough
One villa split six ways is easy arithmetic. A real holiday is thirty expenses, paid by five different people, some split between everyone and some between the three who actually went, in two currencies.
That is when you want a running ledger rather than a calculator. Holiday Board tracks who paid what, converts everything into one currency at the rate on the day, and works out the smallest set of payments that clears the lot.
Questions
- What happens when the amount does not divide evenly?
- The odd pennies are given to the earliest people rather than rounded away, so the parts always add back up to exactly the total. £100 between three is £33.34, £33.33 and £33.33, not three lots of £33.33 with a penny missing.
- Can I split unevenly between people?
- Not in this calculator, deliberately. Inside a Holiday Board trip you can set custom amounts per person, and the app checks they add up to the total.
- Does this handle multiple currencies?
- This calculator works in one currency at a time. A real holiday usually involves several, which is what the full expense splitter is for.
