A currency converter built for spending money on holiday
Standing in a shop doing mental arithmetic on an unfamiliar currency is how people end up paying forty pounds for a beach towel.
Holiday Board has a converter built into every trip, set up with your currencies already selected, and it converts spending automatically as you log it.
Set up before you land
Every holiday has a home currency, which is what your group thinks in, and a local currency, which is what you will be spending. Malta with a British group means EUR local and GBP home.
The converter opens with those two already chosen. Tap the swap button to go the other way.
What it shows
- The amount, converted
- The rate in plain terms: €1 = £0.864
- When that rate was last updated
- A reminder that your bank will use its own rate and add its own fees
Conversion while you are entering an expense
Type €180 into an expense and you immediately see roughly what that is in pounds, before you save it. No switching apps, no second guess.
Historical rates stay where they were
When you save an expense, Holiday Board stores the original amount, the original currency, the rate used and the converted amount. Later rate movements never touch it.
This matters more than it sounds. If old expenses re-converted every time rates moved, everyone's balances would drift slightly every day and nobody would trust the number.
No charts, no predictions
There is no rate history graph and no view on where the euro is going. This is a tool for working out whether a menu is expensive, and it stops there.
Questions
- Where do the rates come from?
- European Central Bank reference rates, published each working day. They are the standard neutral reference, not a trading rate.
- Will I get exactly this rate?
- No. Your bank or card provider sets its own rate and may add a fee. Treat this as the true value of the money rather than what your statement will say.
- Which currencies are supported?
- Over twenty, covering the euro, dollar, pound and the currencies of most common holiday destinations.
- Is the converter free?
- The public converter on this site is free to anyone. Inside a holiday it is part of the Holiday Pass.
