What to pack for a girls trip

Girls trip packing has one problem no checklist solves: two people packing the same dress for the same night, and neither finding out until they are getting ready.

The list below covers the usual ground. The coordination bit is the part worth doing properly.

Evening

  • One outfit per night out, plus one spare
  • Shoes you can actually stand in
  • A small bag that closes
  • Jewellery kept in a pouch rather than loose

Agree who is wearing what before you pack, not while you are getting ready.

Daytime

  • Swimwear, one set per two days at minimum
  • Cover ups that work at a beach club as well as the pool
  • Daytime outfits for exploring, shopping or lunch
  • A hat and sunglasses

Toiletries

  • Sun cream and after sun
  • Make-up and remover
  • Hair tools, and check the plug type and voltage first
  • Dry shampoo
  • Any medication you take

Agree who is bringing hair tools. Four sets of straighteners is four sets of straighteners nobody needs.

Essentials

  • Passport, and a photo of it stored separately
  • Boarding passes or booking references
  • Travel insurance details
  • Bank cards, plus one kept somewhere separate
  • Any prescription medication in its original packaging
  • Phone charger and a plug adapter if needed
  • Physical ID if any of the nights involve clubs

Worth having

  • A power bank
  • Plasters, for the shoes
  • A foldable bag for what you buy
  • Rehydration sachets

Things specific to a girls trip

Coordinate the outfits, not just the list

On Holiday Board every plan holds one outfit per person, so everyone can see that Sarah has the black dress for Friday and Amy has the green jumpsuit, before anybody packs. This is the entire reason outfits exist as a feature.

Split the shared items

Hair tools, speakers, adapters and first aid do not need packing four times. Put them on the group's bring list against a plan so it is written down who is bringing what.

Pack for the days, not just the nights

Groups reliably overpack for evenings and underpack for days. Count the daytime plans on your board and pack against that number.

Most commonly forgotten

  • Plasters
  • A power bank
  • Enough daytime clothes
  • A bag that closes
  • Physical ID

Build your own list instead of copying this one

A generic packing list does not know what you are doing on the Tuesday. Yours does.

On Holiday Board, whatever you attach to a plan as a bring item, and whatever outfit you pick for it, turns up on your personal packing list automatically. Sunscreen wanted by three different days appears once and tells you which three. Tick it off as you pack, and what you tick is yours alone.

How the packing list works

Questions

What is the one thing people forget when packing for a girls trip?
Plasters. The full list of common misses is above.
Do I have to work from a generic list?
No, and it is better not to. Holiday Board builds your packing list from your own plans: whatever you said to bring, plus whatever you said you are wearing, with duplicates merged into one line.
Can everyone in the group have their own list?
Yes. Each traveller gets their own list and their own ticks. One person packing their passport does not mark off anyone else's.
